Last week Friday was a fun filled day. I had an actual PROFESSIONAL photo shoot, which will be featured in a bridal magazine. Huge goofy smiles. * I was not the model, only the mere extra. But it’s a step up, not that I want to be a model because I don’t. But it was fun to be on set. I was more than grateful for the experience, it just further reminds me that there is so much more out there than my 4 walls of a life. There is a whole world that I have yet to experience. I can’t wait to begin my career and get out there and take a huge chunky bite out of life. Yum! (Rubs belly). Anyhow, while on set I met a few amazing people. They were so ridiculously laid back. I felt as if I’ve known them longer. So of course as promised I started to lug around my big ole camera everywhere, she’s my little sidekick.

Presenting…Martina! Isn’t she a beauty? She’s awesome and a total math wiz! “I’m good at EVERYTHING!!” As she puts it (wink, wink) but she certainly is multitalented. Lovvvee it! |

These are a few others I met, who were just as wonderful. The coolest guy there, Sean. I don’t know, I kept telling him that he reminds me of Ryan Reynolds. Do you see it? Shrugs* maybe it was just me lol. |
Well that was just the first part of my day. Later that night the beautiful Anna, a very close friend of mine and I decided to hit up the Nuyorican Poets Café.
Let me start off by saying I LOVE slam poetry. I first fell in love with it by watching Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam. I’ve been in awe with it ever since. So I’ve literally been googling every poetry café in NYC to see if they showcase this type of poetry. I came up with this one and the Bowery Poetry Club & Café, which I have yet to attend. I will be visiting this one in the near future. Anyhow, this is how the second half of my night “went down” lol. I told Anna to be at my house by 8:15. I love her, but umm she has a tendency to ALWAYS be late and I didn’t want to miss a lick of the action. The slam poetry segment didn’t begin until 10 o’clock but I told her it started at 9:30pm just to be on the safe side. So she actually shows up on time (shocks*) and we hop on the FDR and off we went. Unfortunately although we reached in record time (approximately 9 o’clock) there was no parking. UGH! I hate when that happens. We drive by the café and there is already a long line forming. I was really beginning to get ticked off. We literally drove around for 45 minutes looking for a parking space. Ms. Anna stopped by many “parking spaces” not noticing the fire hydrants lurking near by (chuckles*). Needless to say, we FINALLY found one (sighs of relief*). Though there was a catch we had to park elsewhere by 11pm or else we would be subjected to a ticket. She did have to leave during intermission but found a semi-permanent home for the car (oh yea!). So we get on line and I was super duper excited. While online I notice the back of this guys cap and decided to take a picture. And of course the bright flash red flags myself that I am taking a picture of him. But I try to cover myself by making it seem as if I were taking a picture of the sky. Haha!

I don’t know what that cap was supposed to mean (shrugs*) but it did make me laugh. |
Nonetheless, we finally get into café and it’s jam-packed. Yikes! We had to sit on the floor! No worries, we didn’t really mind. I was game for virtually anything. Let the festivities begin. All right so the talent that surrounded the room overwhelmed me. Each artist brought their own unique individual creative style to the table. No two poets were alike. BTW, I’ve never been ANYWHERE where in a room amongst strangers I felt right at home. You didn’t feel as if you were being judged or criticized. The ambiance of the room was just cozy and relaxing. But we digress, these young people made me feel ALIVE! They all did such a spectacular job; even the host was a delight to watch. I laughed and got a bit misty eyed while there.

Tonya, she did a wonderful job! Hope to hear more of her. |
|
Oveous Maximus (hit him up on facebook) he was simple divine. I was deeply touched by his work. “Dope!” BTW, he won the poetry competition that night.
|
|
Robbie Q. Telfer, this man is genius he mixes comedy with poetry to unravel the morality of his work. You rock! |
|
Paragraph, ah ladies you need a man like this on your side. He was badass! In awe! |

Regretfully I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of all the artists though there were all as equally talented. I support them all on their continuing journey! |
|
Random guy that wanted to take a picture with me, smiles* BTW, he was a bit tipsy. He wanted us to go with him to a bar (side eye*) |
Moreover, I definitely will become a regular at the Nuyorican Café! I had a great night, and special thanks to Anna for coming out with me. She is always down for whatever and it was an extra bonus that she too is interested in this particular type of poetry. Yippie!
